SERVICE PROCEDURE INTRODUCTION

^ The door "waist molding" has nine metal tabs along its length. These tabs go through slots in the plastic finisher (see Figure 2A).

^ The tabs fold under to attach the waist molding to the door finisher fabric. Finisher Fabric "Pulls Away":

^ If the metal tab closest to the back of the door unfolds (see Figures 2A and 2B), the waist molding can come loose from the finisher.

^ If the metal tab unfolds, a gap can form between the waist molding and finisher fabric (see Figure 3).

^ The Service Procedure will have you bending the door finisher waist molding inward to completely fit over the finisher fabric.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the door finisher. Refer to the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM), Section EI (Exterior and Interior)/Door Finisher/Removal and Installation for detail.

2. There is some "EPT" foam that is glued to the window channel molding (see Figure 4)

^ Pull this foam back and remove it from the window channel molding (see Figure 4).

3. Use two pliers to bend the waist molding inward (see Figure 5).

NOTE:
The waist molding should completely fit over the finisher material (see Figures 6A and 6B for views of the waist molding BEFORE and AFTER the procedure is completed).

4.

^ Take a # 6 "Truss Head" Phillips screw (see PARTS INFORMATION for detail).

^ Insert the screw through the hole in the tab slot on the finisher.

^ Screw it into the finisher (see Figure 7).

This will securely clamp the waist molding to the finisher so the molding overlaps the finisher material completely.

CAUTION:
Make sure that you do not break or damage the window seal when inserting the screw.

5. Apply Nissan Weatherstrip Cement over the area where the Truss Head Phillips screw was inserted in step 4 - see Figure 8.

Nissan Weatherstrip Cement is P/N 999MP-A4025P - see the PARTS INFORMATION section for detail.

6. Press the EPT foam back in place (see Figure 9).

7. Use pliers to "flatten" each of the nine metal fold-over tabs located along the length of the waist molding (see Figure 2A and Figure 10).

This will tighten the grip of the tabs and firmly secure the waist molding to the finisher.

8. Inspect the opposite door and repeat steps 1 through 7, if needed.
