SATELLITE RADIO ANTENNA INSTALLATION TIPS
APPLIED VEHICLES:
All Vehicles pre-wired for Satellite Radio*
*Refer to Accessory Bulletin NAB/03-030 announcing Satellite Radio availability for specifics.
SERVICE INFORMATION
The service information provided here only clarifies the most important areas in the Satellite Radio antenna installation instructions. Carefully follow the installation instructions provided with the antenna kit.
Installation Caution
To assure proper adhesion of the antenna "tail" and prevent water leaks, technicians must
^ Position the antenna "tail" very carefully and precisely at the rear window seal.
^ Correctly place butyl gum (3 pieces) and clear tape where the antenna wires enter the trunk.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Antenna Tail Installation Tips
1. The antenna wires must be centered in the grooves of the rubber antenna tail flap.
2. The antenna wires go under the rear window rubber molding, and the rubber antenna tail flap goes over the window rubber molding.
3. Always clean the roof panel with an alcohol paper "wipe" (or 50/50 water/alcohol solution) prior to installing antenna.
4. The antenna tail flap must be even with roof edge.
5. If the antenna wires are too tight, it may eventually cause the antenna tail to work loose sometime after the installation is completed.
Trunk Gutter Channel Antenna Wire Installation Tips
IMPORTANT:
The clear tape, butyl gum, and antenna wires must be installed carefully in this area or trunk water leaks will result.
6. Place edge protector over cut notch.
7. Clean area with alcohol paper "wipe".
8. Position clear tape (with backing still in place) to locate the exact position of the first piece of butyl gum.
Butyl gum is applied at the metal lip of the trunk gutter, and must be at the edge of the tape where the wires enter. It provides a seal to keep water out.
9. "Route" antenna wires through the butyl gum in the corner of trunk gutter, and then over edge protector. Then press the wires firmly into the butyl gum.
1O. Apply clear tape one surface at a time. Tape must be applied wrinkle-free to prevent water leaks. This is critical.
Start by peeling and folding back about 3/8" of the backing material, and applying ONLY to the bottom surface of trunk gutter, overlapping the butyl gum.
Rub the tape down firmly to eliminate wrinkles and bubbles, especially in the corner area.
11. Peel and fold back 3/8" more tape backing, and apply tape up the edge of gutter lip. Rub the tape down firmly to eliminate wrinkles and bubbles.
12. Peel tape backing completely off, and stretch tape over the top edge of trunk gutter to get a tight seal.
Pull tape over and down on the trunk side of the gutter lip and apply to surface. Rub the tape down firmly to eliminate wrinkles and bubbles.
13. Apply the rest of the clear tape under the gutter (trunk interior) per the instructions.
14. Apply two pieces of butyl gum, one on each end of the clear tape, to completely seal the corner area.
Be sure to press the added butyl gum into the existing butyl gum to provide a complete seal around the wires.
These steps will help insure that water will not leak into the trunk.
