Body - Sunroof Operates By Itself

SUNROOF OPENS AND/OR TILTS UP BY ITSELF

APPLIED VEHICLE:
2002-03 Maxima (A33)

APPLIED VINs:
Vehicles built before JN1DA31A33T417593 (with SRS side air bags)
Vehicles built before JN1DA31D23T512639 (without SRS side air bags)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If an applied vehicle has the symptoms listed below:

^ Sunroof opens by itself

AND/OR

^ Sunroof tilts up by itself

Use the following Service Procedure to resolve the incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Try to confirm the incident does occur.

2. Make sure the sunroof is in the fully closed position.

3. Replace the sunroof slide switch with the one listed in the Parts Information table as follows:





A. Remove two screws from the roof center console (which houses the sunglass holder, map lights/switches, and sunroof controls). See Figure 1.





B. Disconnect the map light and sunroof switch harness connectors from the vehicle harness connectors (see Figure 2).

NOTE:
For information about disconnecting the connectors, refer to the HARNESS CONNECTOR description in the "EL" section of the applicable Service Manual.

C. Remove two screws and remove the sunroof slide switch (see Figure 2).

D. Install the new sunroof slide switch and connect its harness connector to the vehicle harness.

E. Re-connect the map light harness connector to the vehicle harness.

F. Re-install the roof center console and the two screws.

4. Make sure the sunroof operates normally with the new switch installed.

NOTE:
If the sunroof does not operate normally, re-set the sunroof memory as follows:





^ If the sunroof is open, press the tilting switch repeatedly toward tilt "Down" to fully close the sunroof (see Figure 3)

^ After the sunroof has closed all the way, keep pressing the tilting switch toward tilt "Down" for more than three seconds.
