M/T - Shift Boot Damaged

SERVICE INFORMATION

IF YOU CONFIRM:

An applied vehicle has an M/T Console Boot that:





^ Has a hole worn though it (on the side facing the front of the vehicle)

AND/OR

^ Has broken stitches (on the side facing the front of the vehicle)

ACTION:

Use the Service Procedure to replace the M/T Console Boot.

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding table.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Replace the M/T Console Boot as follows:

1. Unscrew and remove the M/T Shift knob.

2. Remove the old M/T Console Boot assembly. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for removal.

3. Install the new M/T Console Boot assembly in the reverse order it was removed.

NOTE:
Before you install the new M/T Console Boot assembly:

^ Clean the Flange Bracket (on the shifter) to remove dirt/debris/residue.





^ Apply (wrap) four layers of vinyl (electrical) tape around the Flange Bracket (see Figure 1). This will help prevent contact/rubbing between the Flange Bracket and the Console Boot.

4. Reinstall the Shift knob.
