Service Procedure
1. Move the storage lid to the position shown in Figure 2.
^ Use the soft top power switch in the "Open" position.
^ Soft-top should be folded into its storage area.
2. Remove the storage lid inspection cover.
3. To make sure this is the correct repair, check the lock assembly:
^ The auto-closure wire will be "overextended" out of the motor in the wrong position.
^ See Figure 4.
NOTE:
Figure 9 shows the correct position of the lock assembly.
4. Remove the auto-closure wire retaining pin (see Figure 5).
5. Disconnect the auto-closure wire (see Figure 6).
6. Apply Genuine Nissan Window Regulator Grease to the lock assembly as shown in Figure 7.
^ GENUINE NISSAN WINDOW REGULATOR GREASE MUST BE USED for this repair. This product is listed in the Parts Information.
^ This product is the ONLY approved grease for this repair. This special grease has been tested in this and other applications and found to provide more durable, longer-lasting lubrication in severe conditions.
7. Twist the auto-closure wire "back" into the 5th bow closure motor (see Figure 8).
^ Twist the wire counterclockwise.
^ The wire should move back into the motor about 1.5 - 2 inches.
^ If the wire feels tight and won't twist, go to Reset Auto-Closure Wire.
8. Reconnect the auto-closure wire and make sure the lock assembly is in the position shown in Figure 9.
9. Reinstall the retaining pin (see Figure 5).
10. Reinstall the storage lid inspection cover (see Figure 3).
11. Make sure the soft-top opens and closes correctly.
Reset Auto-Closure Wire
1. Use the soft top power switch to fully open the storage lid (see Figure 10).
2. Remove the 5th bow closure motor connector from the storage lid (see Figure 11).
3. Disconnect the connector.
4. "Back-probe" the connector (White and Green wires) with T pins.
CAUTION:
^ Make sure the connector is disconnected.
^ Make sure you are back-probing the harness side that goes into the storage lid.
^ Do Not back-probe the harness that goes to the soft-top control unit.
5. Connect jumper leads to the T pins. *
^ Positive to the White wire.
^ Negative to the Green wire.
* CAUTION:
Do not supply power (12 volts) to the jumper leads yet.
6. Set up a battery booster for use as a 12 volt power supply (see Figure 15).
^ Connect the negative booster cable to the black jumper lead (attached to the Green wire).
^ Hold the positive booster cable and the red jumper lead (attached to the White wire) in a position so you can see the lock assembly at the same time.
7. "Tap" the red jumper lead to the positive booster cable (see Figure 16).
^ Watch the auto-closure wire.
^ The auto-closure wire will "twist in" (shorten) as the booster cable and jumper lead are tapped together.
^ After the auto-closure wire has shortened about 1/2 inch, return to step 7.
