SERVICE INFORMATION
Disassembly Tips
1. Disassemble the vehicle as needed to access the fuel pump.
^ Refer to the FL section in the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM).
^ Follow all CAUTIONS in the Service Manual.
2. Disconnect the fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump assembly electrical connector.
3. Unfasten the quick release connectors and remove the return and fuel feed lines.
NOTE:
On the Maxima, tuck the fuel lines forward and down out of the way. This will make it easier to use the lock ring wrench without damaging the connectors.
4. Apply a multi-purpose grease to the edge of the ridges on the lock ring (see Figure 2).
5. Position the lock ring wrench and use a 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 3" extension for leverage.
NOTE:
This will also help to prevent scraping your knuckles during disassembly.
6. Turn counter-clockwise (left).
For Reassembly
1. Align the lock ring
NOTE:
Make sure there is still multi-purpose grease on the edge of the ridges of the lock ring (see Figure 2).
2. Depress the fuel pump assembly spring.
3. Reposition the lock ring wrench tool.
4. Turn the lock ring clockwise (right) until it is fully seated.
