A/T FINISHER/SLIDE PLATE DEFORMED/
BINDING/POOR APPEARANCE
This bulletin amends NTB06-071. The If You Confirm, Action, and Parts Information has been amended.
Please discard all previous copies of this bulletin.
APPLIED VEHICLE:
2004-2006 Maxima (A34)-A/T models only IF YOU CONFIRM
^ The A/T shift lever is hard to move between shift selector positions because the Slide Plate is binding.
AND
^ The Slide Plate Assy. is deformed, bent, or otherwise mis-shaped.
OR
^ The Shift Indicator Finisher is scratched, deformed, or has poor appearance.
ACTION
^ If the Slide Plate Assy. is deformed, bent, or otherwise mis-shaped: Replace only the Slide Plate Assembly with the service part listed in this bulletin.
OR
^ If the Shift Indicator Finisher is scratched, deformed, or has poor appearance:
Replace only the Shift Indicator Finisher with the service part listed in this bulletin.
NOTE:
Do not replace the entire A/T Console Indicator and Finisher Assembly for these incidents, if they should occur.
IMPORTANT:
The purpose of 'ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure (starting on page 3) as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.
PARTS INFORMATION

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding shown.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Use appropriate covers to protect upholstery, carpet, etc. when performing the following procedure.
1. Apply hand brake and move the shift selector to neutral.
2. Remove shift knob as follows:
a. Slide down shift knob finisher.
b. Remove C clip (see Figure 2B).
c. Remove shift knob and shift knob finisher (see Figure 2A).
CAUTION:
Do not twist shift knob.
3. Remove the console finisher using a trim panel remover and disconnect the three harness connectors.
^ Refer to section IP in the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for console finisher removal information.
4. Remove slide plate assy. as follows:
a. Remove shift indicator bulb.
b. Remove the screw.
c. Unsnap slide plate assy from the clip.
5. Clean any material, such as soda, that may have been spilled on or in the shift selector.
6. Install a new slide plate assy. or shift indicator finisher as applicable in reverse order of removal.
7. Install the console finisher in reverse order of removal.
8. Reinstall the shift knob.
9. Make sure the shift selector moves smoothly to each position.
