A/T - TCM Reprogramming After A/T Replacement: Overview

TCM REPROGRAMMING NEEDED

WHEN REPLACING A 5-SPEED A/T ASSEMBLY

APPLIED VEHICLES:
2004-05 Maxima (A34), 5-speed A/T ONLY, w/o ICS / VDC 2005 Altima (L31), 5-speed A/T ONLY, w/o ICS / VDC

IF YOU CONFIRM:

An applied vehicle needs to have the 5-speed A/T assembly replaced for any reason.

ACTIONS:

A. Confirm this bulletin applies:

^ Use CONSULT-II to check the vehicle's Current TCM Part Number.

^ Compare the vehicle's Current TCM Part Number to Chart A.

If the vehicle's TCM part number does not match one of the part numbers listed in Chart A, this bulletin does not apply. Go back to ASIST for further diagnostic and repair information.

B. Check to see if ECM reprogramming is needed for the vehicle you're working on (refer to Chart A).

C. If needed, perform reprogramming by "SPECIAL ID LOOKUP" a special process for this TSB only.

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the following claims coding:

Confirm This Bulletin Applies





1. With CONSULT-II "ON", print the Transmission Control Module (TCM) Part Number (P/N) as shown.





^ Figure 1 is an example of the P/N printout.

^ This is the TCM P/N.

2. Attach this printout to the Repair Order.

^ On next, you'll use the TCM P/N to see if this bulletin applies.

3. Check the TCM P/N on the printout from step 1 (Figure 1):

Compare your vehicle's TCM P/N to those shown under Current TCM Part Number in Chart A below:





IMPORTANT:
To get the correct reprogramming data for this incident, you must:

--> If your vehicle's TCM P/N matches a Current TCM P/N in the chart above:

^ This bulletin applies.

^ TCM reprogramming will be needed.

^ ECM reprogramming may be needed (refer to Chart A, above).

^ Continue with Perform Reprogramming by Special ID Lookup.

--> If your vehicle's TCM P/N does not match a P/N in the chart above:

^ This bulletin does not apply. Go back to ASIST for further diagnostic and repair information.

Perform Reprogramming by Special ID Lookup

1. Perform reprogramming using the special "ASIST ECU DATA ID CODE" from Chart A.

IMPORTANT:

a. You must use the ID Code to get the reprogramming data for this incident.

b. This incident will require TCM reprogramming.

c. This incident may require ECM reprogramming (refer to Chart A).
