IF YOU CONFIRM

The MIL is ON and code P1402 EGR OPEN is stored in the ECM.

ACTION

^ Inspect the EGR valve for metallic debris. See the Service Information section of this bulletin for the specific inspection procedure.

^ If metallic debris is present, replace the Bank 1 catalyst and EGR valve.

CLAIMS INFORMATION

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing the repair.

SERVICE INFORMATION

1. Remove the EGR valve as per the EM section of the respective ESM.








2. Inspect the EGR valve for metallic flake debris. (see Figures 1 and 2)

3. If metallic debris is present in the EGR valve, remove Bank 1 catalyst (rear of engine) as per EM section of the respective ESM.

4. Inspect both the top and bottom of the catalyst.





^ Bank 1 Catalyst - viewed from the top. (see Figure 3)

5. If the catalyst has loose material as seen if Figure 3 above, blow out the debris from interior of Bank 1 exhaust manifold. Remove the EGR valve and tube, and then blow out any debris from the EGR valve and tube.

6. Replace the Bank 1 catalyst and EGR valve in the reverse order of removal.

7. Clear stored code P1402 from the ECM memory.
