Figure 3:
5. A new pair of fasteners will be added to the center [1]. Roof Bow fasteners will also be replaced [2] and [3]. All others will only be replaced as needed.
Prepare Roof Bow and Headliner for additional pair of fasteners
Figure 4:
6. Make a mark on the sunroof bow as shown, about 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) back from the leading metal edge, as wide as the headliner fastener, centered from side to side.
Figure 5:
7. Mark the inside headliner with a line, 2 inches (50.8 mm) back from the opening as shown in Figure 5.
Figure 6:
This is where the additional headliner fasteners (1a and 1b) will be added as shown in Figure 6
8. For the two Upper Headliner fasteners being replaced [2] and [3]: Remove any remaining residue from the roof bow with an appropriate scraper. Clean all metal surfaces with cleaner (50% isopropyl alcohol 50% water mixture) before applying the thin type headliner fastener to the flat spots in the Roof Bow.

Install Roof Bow and Headliner fasteners
9. Install fasteners onto the Metal Roof Bow as follows:
a. From the Kit, select the thin type (peel and stick) fasteners
- Be sure the flat metal surfaces have been cleaned completely.
- Peel the protective film off and stick the fastener to the roof bow using a good amount of finger pressure to ensure a proper bond between the fastener to the metal surface.
Figure 8:
b. Repeat step "a" above for each Metal Roof Bow fastener to be installed
10. Install fasteners onto the backside of the Headliner as follows:
a. From the Kit, select the thin type (no foam backing) for location "1b" only and medium type (foam backing) headliner fasteners for all other locations.
CAUTION:
Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection when handling the 3M Duramix Super Fast Adhesive (04747).
Adhesive Usage Tips:
- To install the mixing tips to the Duramix adhesive tube, cut the very tip of the adhesive tube spout off, insert the mixing tip onto the spout, then twist 1/4 turn to lock it in place.
Figure 9a, Figure 9b:
- Have scrap piece of material (such as cardboard) handy for excess glue deposits.
- Before using the adhesive on the headliner fasteners, squeeze out some adhesive mixture through the tip to ensure it is mixing properly.
- Duramix adhesive has a 20 second work time-continue to squeeze out mixture between applications to prevent adhesive from drying in the mixing tip.
Figure 10:
b. Using a 3M 04991 Applicator Gun and Duramix Mixing Tips from the kit, apply the Adhesive to cover the entire back side of a Headliner Fastener (see Figure 10).
- Obtain the Applicator Gun from a local source such as McMaster Carr, or local auto parts store.
- The Applicator Gun is considered as a Shop Supply.
Figure 11:
c. Install the headliner fastener to the backside of the Headliner (see Figure 11).
d. Repeat steps b and c above for all other Headliner Fasteners being installed.
- Do not attach upper and lower fasteners together at this time-allow 10 minutes for the adhesive to "set" properly. During this time, perform steps 11 and 12.
11. If needed, go to Repair for Loose Headliner at LF or RF "A" Pillar. Then go to step 12.
Figure 12:
12. After adhesive has "set" for 10 minutes, press all Headliner and Roof Bow Fasteners together so the Headliner is securely fastened into the proper position (see Figure 12).
- Ensure hands are thoroughly clean or use a fresh pair of gloves before installing headliner.
13. Reinstall all trim pieces removed in step 3 in reverse order.
14. Ensure sunroof and sunshade operations are normal.
