IF YOU CONFIRM:
Squeal/Squeak noise from rear brakes:
^ While moving forward
^ With very light brake application (light pedal pressure)
^ When the brakes are either hot (after 10 or more minutes of driving) or cold (after vehicle has not been driven for 2 or more hours)
^ At speeds less than 10 MPH
^ While traveling straight
NOTE:
This is intended to be a partial list of examples of the types of conditions when you may be able to duplicate rear wheel brake squeal/squeak, if it occurs. When attempting to duplicate this noise it is important to have a second person safely standing outside of the vehicle to determine if the noise being heard is coming from the front or rear brakes.
ACTION:
Replace the rear brake pads and rear brake hardware kit with the parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin.
IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTION" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing the repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. On both rear brakes, replace the rear disc brake pads and hardware. Refer to section BR, REAR DISC BRAKE Removal and Installation in the appropriate Service Manual (ESM) for service information.
NOTES:
^ Follow all CAUTIONS in the ESM procedure when removing and replacing brake pads.
^ Use an environmentally appropriate brake cleaner to remove the old grease and/or brake dust from the brake assembly. Consult local environmental regulations to decide which brake cleaner to use.
^ During re-assembly perform the following steps:
a. Clean the lower area of the torque member thoroughly in the places indicated in Figure 1.
b. There are two Pad Retainers in the Hardware Kit. Select the one that has the adhesive pads (see Figure 2).
c. Remove the cover strips and place the Pad Retainer with adhesive pads down on the lower section of the torque member that you just cleaned (see Figure 3).
d. Apply the contents of the grease packet supplied in the Hardware Kit to the back of the pad, between the pad and the new shim.
NOTE:
Do not use any other grease except the one supplied in the Kit for this repair.
e. Continue with normal re-assembly.
2. Test drive the vehicle as described in the IF YOU CONFIRM section shown in this bulletin to verify the symptom is reduced.
