IF YOU CONFIRM

There is a scraping noise coming from the steering wheel while turning.

ACTIONS

^ Remove the steering wheel air bag module.





^ Re-route the Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) switch harness to make sure it rests below the center of the air bag inflater. See Figure 1B

^ Re-install the steering wheel air bag module.

NOTE:
Do not replace the air bag module or the spiral cable for this issue, if it should occur.

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Write down all radio station preset.

2. Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first).

^ Wait at least 3 minutes after battery cables are disconnected before disconnecting any SRS components.





3. Remove the side lids and the air bag bolts (RH/LH). See Figure 2.

^ Discard old bolts, do not reuse. Use the new bolts listed in the Parts Information table.





4. Carefully lift the air bag module away from the steering wheel.





5. Position the air bag module and wire harnesses as shown.

6. If necessary, disconnect the ASCD switch harness first, then the air bag connectors.

^ To disconnect the air bag connectors, use a small flat head screw driver to pry the black locking clips up, then remove the connectors from the module.

7. Reconnect the air bag connectors and the ASCD connector.





8. Rotate the air bag module so it is upside down as shown in Figure 5.





9. Rotate the air bag module to the left in a semi-circle, 180° counter clockwise. See Figure 6.

^ Both air bag module and Nissan logo should be right side up.

10. Pulling down on the ASCD switch harness, install the air bag module onto the steering wheel.





^ Make sure the ASCD switch harness rests below the center of the air bag inflater and is not pinched between the air bag module and steering shaft threads. See Figure 7B.

11. Install the new air bag bolts and side lids.

^ Torque bolts 10.8 Nm (1.1 kg-m, 8 ft-lb).

12. Reconnect the battery cables (positive cable first).

13. Reprogram the radio station presets.

14. Reset the moonroof switch as applicable. See the Owners Manual, Instruments and Controls, for details.

15. Reinitialize the power windows as applicable. See NTB 06-065 for details.
