Interior - Front Seat Back(s) Won't Recline

APPLIED VEHICLES: 2007-2010 Versa (C11)

IF YOU CONFIRM

The seatback does not recline when operating the driver or front passenger seatback reclining lever on an Applied Vehicle.

ACTION





Replace the reclining device assembly parts with the new ones listed in the Parts Information section.

NOTE
Do not replace the entire seat assembly for this incident, should it occur.





PARTS INFORMATION

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTIONS" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.





CLAIMS INFORMATION

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Write down the radio station presets.

2. Turn the ignition OFF. Disconnect both 12V battery cables, negative cable first, and wait at least 3 minutes before proceeding to step 3.

CAUTION:
Do not drop, tilt, or bump the side air bag module while removing/installing the seat. Always handle it with care.

3. Remove the seat from the vehicle.

^ See the SE section of the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for removal instructions.

4. Place the seat, upright, on a clean covered workbench.

5. Remove the seat cushion inner finisher.

^ See the SE section of the applicable ESM for removal instructions.





WARNING:
DO NOT unhook the trim attachment piece circled in Figure 1. Remove only the three parts listed in step 6.

6. Remove the following three parts:





#1 - Yellow Clip

^ Use pliers to squeeze together the prongs behind the clip.

^ Pull the clip out/away from the seat.

#2 - Connecting Rod

^ Lift the White Clip (see Figure 1 for location) so that it is no longer covering the connecting rod.

^ Pull the connecting rod out/away from the seat.





#3 - White Clip





^ Pull the white clip out/away from the seat using pliers, if needed.

7. Install the new parts listed in the Parts Information section.

a) Push the new white clip into the hole where the old white clip was located.

^ Make sure the clip locks in place.

b) Insert the non-threaded side of the new connecting rod into the hole of the white clip.

c) Push down the white clip so that it covers the rod.





d) Push the new yellow clip into the hole where the old yellow clip was located.





^ Position the clip so that the hinge is at the bottom and the latch is at the top.

^ Make sure the clip locks in place.

e) Confirm the seatback is in the upright position; adjust if needed.





f) Turn the recline lever knob clockwise until it stops.





g) Pull back (toward the back of the seat) the connecting rod as far as it will go, then insert it into the yellow clip.





h) Close (lock) the yellow clip.

8. Reinstall the reclining lever and confirm operation of the recline feature.

9. Reinstall the following as instructed in the SE section of the ESM:

^ seat cushion inner finisher

^ seat

10. Reconnect the battery cables.

11. Reprogram the radio presets.

12. Reinitialize the Automatic Sunroof as applicable. See the Owner's Manual for details.
