FRONT SEAT


Removal and Installation


FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY

Removal

CAUTION:
- Before removing the front seat, turn the ignition switch off, disconnect both battery terminals and wait and least 3 minutes.
- When checking the power seat circuit for continuity using a circuit tester, do not confuse its connector with the side air bag module connector. Such an error may cause the air bag to deploy.
- Do not drop, tilt, or bump the side air bag module while installing the seat. Always handle it with care.
- After front side air bag module inflates, front seatback assembly must be replaced.
- Always replace passenger seat cushion as an assembly with Occupant Classification System.
- When removing or installing the seat trim, handle it carefully to keep dirt out and avoid damage.
- When removing and installing, use shop cloths to protect the parts from damage where they may interfere with other parts.
1. Slide the seat until the four seat bolts are visible and a tool can be inserted.
2. Disconnect the negative and positive battery terminals and wait at least 3 minutes.
3. Disconnect the harness connector for the side air bag module.
4. If equipped, disconnect the power seat harness connector and vehicle harness clip from the vehicle.
5. Remove the seat leg covers.
6. Remove the four seat bolts and the seat.

Installation
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.





- When installing the LH front seats tighten the bolts as shown.





- When installing the RH front seats tighten the bolts as shown.

FRONT SEAT RECLINING DEVICE

NOTE:
If possible, adjust seat back to the normal seated position before removing the seat.

Removal
1. Remove the front seat assembly.





2. Remove the seat outer finisher (3).
- If equipped, remove the seat switch levers (1).
- Remove the lumbar handle (2).
- Remove the seat switch assembly from the outer finisher (3) and disconnect it from the harness (if equipped).





3. Release the seat cushion inner J channel (1).





4. Remove the inner finisher (1).
5. Remove the setback board.





6. Release the seatback trim J clips (1).





7. Remove the screws (A), the tie wraps (B) and the lumbar support actuator (1).
8. Disconnect the seat wiring harness from the seatback and seat cushion frame.
- Disconnect the following:
- Side air bag
- Heater (if equipped)
- Seatback tilt sensor (if equipped)
- Seatback tilt motor (if equipped)
9. Unhook the seatback trim hook and loop flaps.





10. Disconnect the EZ-entry cables (1) from the inner and outer locations (inner shown).





11. Remove the bolts (A) and the seatback assembly (1) including the reclining device from the seat cushion assembly.





12. Remove the bolts (A) and the reclining device (1) from the seatback frame.

Installation
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

SEATBACK BOARD

Disassembly

CAUTION:
- During installation, the wire harness clips must be reinstalled in the holes they were originally in. Do not add additional clips.

NOTE:
If the vehicle has been involved in a collision, the seat must be inspected for damage. Refer to For Side and Rollover Collision.
1. Slide the seat to forward position.





2. The seatback board is attached to the seat frame with the following:
- 2 top clips (A) (must be replaced)
- 2 side hooks (B)
- 2 bottom hooks (C)





3. Hold the seatback board as shown and push in the side hooks to release them from the seat back frame.
4. Carefully pull up on the seatback board to release the bottom hooks.





5. Reach in from the bottom of the seatback board to release the top clips. Squeeze the clips at the location shown (A) using suitable tool.

Assembly
Assembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
