DOOR WINDOWS CONTACTING SOFT TOP

IF YOU CONFIRM:





The soft top fabric is frayed (damaged) near a door window (left or right side) in the location shown in Figure 1.

and/or

The window is making contact with the soft top fabric when the door is opened or closed (see Figure 1 and Figure 1A),

ACTIONS:

Refer to the service procedure below.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. If the soft top fabric is damaged:

a. Replace the soft top fabric (cover).

^ Refer to the service manual as needed for soft top cover replacement.

^ Make sure to replace only the soft top cover and not the entire convertible top assembly.

b. After the soft top cover replacement, check door window to soft top clearance.

^ Open and close both front doors a few times.

^ Make sure the door window does not rub (contact) the soft top fabric.

^ If needed adjust the window.





If a door window rubs (contacts) the soft top fabric when opening and closing the door, adjust the window down and forward just enough to prevent the window from contacting the fabric.

See Window Adjustment shown below.

2. If the soft top fabric is not damaged adjust the window - see Window Adjustment below.

3. Make sure there are no water or air leaks.

Window Adjustment

IMPORTANT:
Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), such as an air bag.





1. Write down all radio station pre-sets.

2. If equipped - write down / record the following customer settings for the ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) system (refer to the ESM as needed):

^ Temperature Setting Trimmer

^ Foot Position Setting Trimmer

^ Inlet Port Memory Function

3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

4. Disconnect both battery cables - negative cable first.

5. Wait for at least 3 minutes.

6. Remove the door panel (finisher).

^ Refer to the Service Manual, section INT / Interior, for door panel removal.

7. Reconnect the battery cables (positive cable first).





8. Operate the power window up or down as needed to access the bolts (A & B) shown in Figure 3.

9. Loosen the bolts (A & B) shown in Figure 3 just enough to allow window movement/adjustment.

NOTE:
The bolt holes are elongated. This will allow enough movement/adjustment to prevent the window from contacting the soft top fabric.





10. Adjust the window down and forward just enough to prevent the window from contacting the soft top.

11. Tighten the bolts.

12. After window adjustment, make sure:

^ It does not rub (contact) the soft top fabric.

^ There are no air leaks.

^ There are no water leaks.

NOTE:
You may need to adjust-and-check two or three times.

13. Disconnect both battery cables, negative cable first, and wait at least 3 minutes.

14. Reinstall the door panel.

^ Refer to the Service Manual, section INT / Interior, for door panel installation.

15. Reconnect the battery cables (positive cable first).

16. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.

17. Perform power window initialization.

^ Refer to section PWC in the Service Manual as needed.

^ Make sure initialization is performed with the soft top in the up/closed position.

18. If equipped - reset the customer settings for the ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) system (refer to the ESM as needed):

19. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON and confirm the Air Bag warning light goes OFF after about 7 seconds.
