Steering/Suspension - Popping/Clunking Noise On Turns

IF YOU CONFIRM

A noise (clunking, popping, or bumping) coming from the front strut assembly when the steering wheel is turned.

ACTION

All 2007-2009 Versa:

1. Install the gray and green tubes listed in the Parts Information section onto the TOP and BOTTOM ends of both (LH and RH) front suspension coil springs.

2. Replace both (LH and RH side) strut mounting bearings with the ones listed in the Parts Information section.

All 2010 and Applicable 2011 Versa:

Install the gray and green tubes listed in the Parts Information section onto the TOP and BOTTOM ends of both (LH and RH) front suspension coil springs.

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.





PARTS INFORMATION





CLAIMS INFORMATION

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove one of the front suspension coil springs.

^ See the FSU section of the applicable Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for removal instructions.





2. Use Nissan Brake Cleaner (or equivalent) to clean the TOP and BOTTOM ends of the spring.

3. Install the Tube-Spr Bottom (Gray Color) onto the BOTTOM end of the spring.





a) Starting at the end of the spring, push the rounded/trimmed end of the tube onto the spring.

NOTE:
The end of the tube must extend 0-6mm past the end of the spring.





b) Squeeze/put pressure on the tube to ensure a good bond (there is glue inside the tube).

4. Install the Tube-Spr Top (Green Color) onto the TOP end of the spring.





a) Starting at the end of the spring, push the rounded/trimmed end of the tube onto the spring.

NOTE:
The end of the tube must extend 4-10mm past the end of the spring.





b) Squeeze/put pressure on the tube to ensure a good bond (there is glue inside the tube).

All 2010 and applicable 2011 Versa - Proceed to step 6.

5. 2007-2009 Versa ONLY: Replace the strut mounting bearing with the one listed in the Parts Information section.

6. Reinstall all parts that were removed.

^ See the FSU section of the applicable ESM for installation instructions.





^ When re-installing the strut mount insulator, apply Bitmen Wax to the center nut after tightening it to the specified torque (see the ESM for this specification).

7. Perform this procedure on the other front suspension coil spring.
