Service Procedure
Remove Seat Tracks1. Write down all radio station presets.
IMPORTANT:
Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), such as an airbag.
2. Raise the seat to the full up position (if lift type seat).
a. Recline the seatback close to the full forward position.
b. Remove the headrest.
3. Remove the incident seat from the vehicle.
^ For seat removal procedure, refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).
^ When removing the seat from the vehicle, if possible, have it adjusted close to the full forward position.
^ If the seat cannot be moved fore / aft in order to access the seat bolts, depress both track's lock release levers at the same time. See a under "Install Service Kit", Figure 10 and b under "Attach Outer Handle Mounting Bracket Assembly", Figure 13 for lock release lever locations.
NOTE:
> Before seat removal, turn off the ignition switch, disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first), and then wait at least three (3) minutes.
> When removing and installing, use suitable covering to protect the vehicle from damage.
> Do not use the slide release handle (for fore / aft adjustment) to lift the seat.
> Do not lay the seat on the rear of the seatback. This will damage the seat finishers.
> Perform seat repairs in a clean work area, such as a work bench with suitable covering.
CAUTION:
The front passenger seat is equipped with an Occupant Detection System sensor and control module. Do not disassemble the front passenger seat cushion assembly or remove the trim as this will affect the Occupant Detection System's calibration.
4. Remove all lower seat finishers.
^ For lift type seats, go to Step 5.
^ For non-lift type seats, refer to the SEAT section of the appropriate ESM.
CAUTION:
For passenger seats only: do not disassemble the seat cushion fabric, its trim, or its attachments (see CAUTION under "Remove Seat Tracks" for more detail).
5. Remove the inner lower inboard (I/B) and outboard (0/B) finishers.
a. Remove the three (3) screws (see Figure 2).
b. Carefully unsnap the I/B and 0/B finishers from each other at the rear (see Figure 3).
c. Remove the I/B finisher by carefully pulling inward (see Figure 4).
6. Remove the outer I/B and 0/B finishers.
a. Carefully unsnap the I/B and 0/B finishers from each other at the rear (see Figure 5).
b. Remove the I/B finisher by carefully pulling inward (see Figure 6).
c. Remove the 0/B finisher by carefully pulling outward (see Figure 7).
7. Remove the outer handle mounting bracket assembly by carefully removing its rivet ("a") with a suitable tool (see Figure 8).
NOTE:
With most of the rivet head removed, it can then be carefully tapped out with a hammer and punch.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the seat frame.
8. Remove the inner and outer tracks by removing their four (4) mounting nuts (no picture shown).
9. Remove the slide release handle ("a") and both mounting bracket sub-assemblies (brackets; "b") together. See Figure 9.
NOTE:
The inner bracket is not shown in Figure 9.
^ Unhook the outer holder spring ("c") from the seat frame while removing the slide release handle and both brackets.
Install Service Kit
Install Inner Track Assembly
1. Mount the inner track assembly onto the frame (see Figure 10).
^ Make sure the lock release lever ("a") is pointing toward the inside of the seat.
^ The inner track's locator pin ("b") is at the rear of the seat.
2. Position the inner bracket (see "c", Figure 10).
^ Make sure the inner bracket's arm ("c") is on top of the lock release lever.
3. Install, but do not tighten, the four (4) inner track mounting nuts ("d") at locations shown in Figure 10.
NOTE:
Do not use the special nut on either seat track (see #7 above, Figure 1).
Install Outer Track Assembly
1. Mount the outer track assembly onto the frame (see Figure 11).
^ Make sure the lock release lever is facing toward the inside of the seat (not shown in Figure 11).
2. Install, but do not tighten, the four (4) inner track mounting nuts ("a") shown in Figure 11.
NOTE
Do not use the special nut on either seat track (see #7 above, Figure 1).
Track Spacing Adjustment
1. Move both the inner and outer tracks as far forward as their rivet dowels and studs will allow.
^ Refer to e, on Figure 10 for inner track rivet dowel location.
^ Refer to b, on Figure 11 for outer track rivet dowel location.
2. Adjust the spacing between both tracks front and rear as equal as possible (see Figure 11).
^ Secure finger tight both inner and outer track mounting nuts.
3. Torque all track nuts: 19.6 - 23.5 Nm (2.0 - 2.4 kg-m, 15 - 17 ft lb).
Attach Outer Handle Mounting Bracket Assembly
1. Attach the outer bracket to the seat frame with the Special Bolt ("a") and nut (see Figure 13).
^ Apply Nissan Silicone Grease # 999MP-AB002 or equivalent to the shoulder of the bolt only, before installation.
NOTE:
The nut used with the Special Bolt must be used for outer bracket attachment only. Do not use it on either seat track (see # 7, on Figure 1).
^ Make sure the outer bracket's arm ("b") is on top of the lock release lever.
2. Torque the bolt and nut: 20.8 - 28.2 Nm (2.1 - 2.9 kg-m, 15 - 21 ft lbs).
3. Attach the outer holder spring (spring) as shown in Figure 14).
a. Insert the spring into the hole ("a") at the rear of the bracket.
b. Hook the spring to the tab ("b") on the bracket.
c. Insert the spring in the slotted hole ("c") on the frame.
4. Apply Nissan Silicone Grease # 999MP-AB002 or equivalent to all moving parts of the inner and outer brackets and their springs.
^ See PARTS INFORMATION on how to obtain this product.
5. Attach the slide release handle to the brackets (see Figure 15).
a. Insert the slide release handle ("a") into both brackets where noted ("b") in Figure 15.
^ Make sure the grab portion of the slide release handle is upward (see Figure 9).
^ Figure 15 shows the outer bracket only.
b. Push the slide release handle through the front holes of the brackets ("b"), and then into the rear holes ("c") until it snaps firmly into place (makes a click noise).
6. Reinstall all finishers in reverse order of removal.
^ Refer to "Remove Seat Tracks", Step 4-6 as it applies to your type of seat.
7. Reinstall the seat in the vehicle.
^ For seat installation procedure, refer to the SEAT section of the appropriate ESM.
^ Do not use the slide release handle to lift the seat.
8. Verify the seat operates normally; make sure both tracks lock into place after fore / aft adjustment.
9. Reconnect both battery cables, negative cable last.
10. Reset / initialize all applied systems i.e., radio, clock, sunroof, etc.
