Service Procedure
SERVICE PROCEDURECAUTION:
^ Be careful; do not scratch or damage finishers or other interior surfaces or parts.
^ Use protective coverings as needed to protect interior surfaces.
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Slide the shift selector handle cover down.
NOTE:
The cover is snapped in place and will require a small amount of force to push it down.
4. Remove the lock pin.
5. Pull UP to remove the shift selector handle and cover.
6. Install the new shift selector handle and cover.
^ Slide the new handle onto the shift selector until it snaps in place.
NOTE:
The new handle comes assembled with cover and clip.
7. Render the old shift selector handle unusable by breaking the electrical connectors.
8. Perform the following three checks for the shift interlock functions:
Check 1
a. Turn the ignition ON (engine OFF-not running).
b. Keep foot off of the brake pedal.
c. Try to shift from Park.
OK - will not shift from Park.
NG - will shift from Park.
Check 2
a. Turn the ignition ON (engine OFF- not running).
b. Press the brake pedal and push the shift handle button.
c. Try to shift from Park.
OK - will shift from Park.
NG - will not shift from Park.
Check 3
a. Turn the ignition ON (engine OFF- not running).
b. Press the brake pedal.
C. Shift from Park to Drive and then back to Park.
d. Turn the ignition to the Lock position.
e. Remove the ignition key.
OK - key is removed.
NG - key will not remove.
If all three checks are OK - repair is complete.
If any of the above three checks is NG - replace the entire shift selector assembly.
^ Go to shift selector assembly replacement.
