4. Grasp filter and one fuel line fitting. Twist quick connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within fitting. Repeat for other fuel line fitting.
WARNING: Safety glasses must be worn when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.
5. Using compressed air, blow out dirt from quick-connect fittings at both ends of the fuel filter.
6. Squeeze plastic tabs (on the quick-connect fittings) on the male end connector and pull connection apart. Repeat for the other fitting.
7. Remove the fuel filter.
INSTALLATION
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury:
a. Before connecting fuel line quick-connect fittings, always apply a few drops of engine oil to the male tube ends. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the o-rings inside the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.
b. If the new fuel filter is nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, it must be replaced.
1. Remove plastic protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install new plastic connector retainers on the filter inlet and outlet tubes. Instal retainers in same position as old filter.
3. Quick-connect fittings:
a. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to both tube ends of the filter.
b. Push the connectors together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place.
c. Once installed, pull on both ends of each connection to make sure they are secure.
4. Position the fuel return line and fuel level meter electrical connector under the in-line fuel filter bracket.
5. Install the fuel filter and bracket on the frame with new plastic body clips (2).
6. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
7. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 2 seconds, then turn to OFF for 5 seconds. Again turn to the ON position and check for fuel leaks.
