Temperature Gauge - Overheat Condition Indicated

91olds02

NUMBER: 91-T-105

CORP.REF.NO: 138107

DATE: April 1991

SECTION: 8A

SUBJECT: INDICATED OVERHEAT CONDITION (REPLACE SENSOR)

MODELS/YEARS: 1990-91 SILHOUETTE

CONDITION:

The engine temperature gage may read high (into the red zone) under normal driving conditions.

CAUSE:

An improper material in the tip of the temperature sensor can cause the temperature gage to read too high. The sensor was changed in production with vehicle number MT305067.

CORRECTION:

Verify that the engine does not have a true overheat condition by comparing the temperature reading of the ECM coolant sensor (measured with a SCAN tool) to the gage reading. If the ECM sensor reads normal at the same time the temperature gage reads high, replace the temperature gage sending unit with P/N 10200490.

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

Use labor operation number N2230 with the current posted time and trouble code 92.
