Engine: Service and Repair



1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations, then disconnect underhood light and remove hood.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then drain cooling system and engine oil pan.
4. Disconnect exhaust pipes at manifolds, then the front propeller shaft at front differential.
5. Remove starter motor, then the torque converter cover bolts and cover.
6. Remove flywheel to torque converter bolts, then the engine mount through bolts.
7. Remove remote oil filter adapter, then the transmission to engine bolt at strut rod.
8. Remove transfer case bolt at strut rod, then the strut rod.
9. Remove transmission to engine bolts.
10. Disconnect transmission cooler lines at clips, then lower vehicle.
11. Remove air cleaner assembly, then the upper fan shroud and accessory drive belt.
12. Remove fan and fan clutch assembly.
13. Disconnect radiator hoses, heater hoses, transmission cooler lines at radiator.
14. Disconnect air conditioning compressor and position aside.
15. Remove radiator.
16. Disconnect power steering hoses at gear pump.
17. Disconnect necessary wiring, fuel lines, and emission hoses.
18. Remove alternator.
19. Disconnect accelerator, TV and cruise control cables.
20. Disconnect wiring, then remove distributor cap.
21. Support transmission using a suitable jack.
22. Remove oil bracket for oil cooler.
23. Remove engine from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install.
