Engine Removal and Installation
1. Relieve fuel system pressure.2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove air cleaner.
4. Recover A/C refrigerant and drain cooling system.
5. Disconnect radiator hoses and heater hoses from engine.
6. Remove engine mount strut.
7. Remove throttle body bracket and disconnect cables.
8. Disconnect vacuum lines from engine. Label vacuum lines for installation reference.
9. Disconnect brake booster hose.
10. Disconnect transaxle shift control cable.
11. Disconnect A/C compressor lines.
12. Raise and support vehicle.
13. Disconnect wiring harness grounds.
14. Disconnect exhaust converter pipe from manifold.
15. Remove front wheel assemblies and inner fender splash shields.
16. Remove stabilizer shaft brackets from lower control arms.
17. Remove tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
18. Remove lower ball joints from knuckles.
19. Drain transaxle fluid, then disconnect transaxle cooler lines and bracket from transaxle.
20. Remove drive axles from transaxle.
21. Secure drive axles to steering knuckle/struts.
22. Remove pinch bolt screw at intermediate steering shaft.
23. Remove intermediate shaft from steering gear. Note that failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion steering gear stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage may cause loss of steering control which could result in an accident and possible personal injury.
24. Support engine, transaxle and frame assembly with transaxle table.
25. Remove frame to body bolts and screws.
26. Lower engine, transaxle and frame assembly from vehicle.
27. Remove engine from transaxle and frame and mount on engine stand.
28. Reverse procedure to install, tighten all fasteners to specifications.
