Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
3. Remove the steering column trim covers from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement-On Vehicle.
4. Disconnect the steering column bulkhead electrical connectors.
5. Remove the wire harness (1) from the wire harness straps (2) and the steering column.
6. Slide the connectors (2) of the turn signal and multifunction switch out of the bulkhead connector (1).
7. Remove the key alarm connector (1) from the lock module (2) in the following way:
7.1. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees.
7.2. Pull the key alarm connector (1) out of the lock module (2).
8. Remove the passkey electrical connector from the lock module (2).
9. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the electric park lock (1), for vehicle equipped with floor shifters.
10. Disengage the ignition switch releasing tabs using J 42759.
11. Remove the ignition switch (2) from the lock module (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the ignition switch (3) to the lock module (1).
2. Install the key alarm connector (1) to the lock module (2).
2.1. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module (2).
2.2. Rotate the key alarm connector (1) 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector (1) locks into place.
3. Install the passkey electrical connector to the lock module (2).
4. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the electric park lock (1), for vehicle equipped with floor shifters.
5. Slide the connectors (2) of the turn signal and multifunction switch into the bulkhead connector (1).
6. Attach the wire harness (1) to the steering column with the wire harness strap (2).
7. Connect the steering column bulkhead electrical connectors.
8. Install the steering column trim covers to the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement-On Vehicle.
9. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
