Scan Tool Data Definitions
8 Digit GM Part Number: The scan tool displays the GM eight digit part number of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).ABS Warning Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the ABS warning lamp detected by the IPC. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM.
Accessory (Data): The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured from the IPC's accessory positive voltage circuit to the IPC's ground circuit.
Accessory (Input): The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the IPC's accessory positive voltage circuit detected by the IPC when the ignition is turned ON.
Air Bag Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the air bag lamp detected by the IPC. The PC receives a class 2 message from the SDM.
Current Gear: The scan tool displays the gear position of the vehicle. The state of the transmission gear input detected by the PCM.
Door Ajar Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the door ajar input detected by the IPC from the door ajar switch (low input).
Engine Oil Level: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch, where an open switch is displayed as Low (low engine oil level).
Engine Oil Life: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM calculates the remaining engine oil life.
Engine Oil Pressure: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil pressure switch, where an open switch is displayed as Low (low engine oil pressure).
Fog Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the fog lamp input detected by the IPC from the fog lamp switch (high input).
Fuel Level: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM calculates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank based on the input from the fuel level sensor. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent.
Hatch Ajar Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the liftgate input detected by the IPC from the liftgate ajar switch (low input).
Hi. Res. Speed Failed: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The state of the vehicle speed detected by the IPC. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM.
Ignition 0 (Data): The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured from the IPC's ignition 0 positive voltage circuit to the IPC's ground circuit.
Ignition 0 (Input): The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the IPC's ignition 0 positive voltage circuit detected by the IPC when the ignition is turned ON.
Ignition 1 (Data): The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured from the IPC's ignition 1 positive voltage circuit to the IPC's ground circuit.
Ignition 1 (Input): The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the IPC's ignition 1 positive voltage circuit detected by the IPC when the ignition is turned ON.
Low Brake Fluid: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the low brake fluid input detected by the PC from the brake fluid switch (low input).
Low Brake Fluid Report: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the EBCM indicating low brake fluid.
Low Coolant Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the low coolant input detected by the PC from the engine coolant level indicator module (low input).
Low Fuel Lamp Timer: The scan tool displays 0-7969 milliseconds. The time measured for the low fuel telltale to come on based on slosh filtering in the fuel tank.
Low Res. Speed Failed: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The state of the wheel speed detected by the IPC. The PC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM. The wheel speed is used as a back up if the IPC does not receive a valid vehicle speed class 2 message from the PCM.
Odometer Msg. Failed: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The state of the odometer rolling count detected by the PC. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM.
Park Brake Telltale: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the park brake input detected by the PC from the park brake switch (low input).
PROM ID: This scan tool displays the four digit number of the PROM incorporated into the IPC.
RAP Timer: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of Retained Accessory Power (RAP) as commanded by the IPC to the RAP relay input (low signal output).
Restraints ID: This scan tool displays the four digit number of the SDM incorporated into the PC.
Traction Off Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the traction system detected by the PC. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM.
Trailer Tow Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the trailer tow when connected and either the left or right turn signal input is detected by the IPC. The hazard lamp/turn signal flasher sends a low input signal to the IPC.
Trip Reset Switch: The scan tool displays Active/Inactive. The state of trip reset switch detected by the PC from the trip reset switch internally.
Trip Reset Timer: The scan tool displays 0-7969 milliseconds. The time measured for the trip reset switch when pressed.
Vehicle Speed: The scan tool displays 0-255 km/h. The PCM monitors the voltage at the signal circuit of the vehicle speed sensor. The voltage is proportional to the vehicle speed.
