Horn: Service and Repair
HORN REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the right and left side park/turn signal/side marker lamps. Refer to Park/Turn Signal/Side Marker Lamp Replacement in Lighting and Horns.
2. Remove the right and left headlamps. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement in Lighting and Horns.
IMPORTANT: The horn/bracket assembly should be removed from the vehicle for any service.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the horn.
4. Remove the bolt (1) holding the mounting bracket to the vehicle.
5. Note the orientation of the mounting bracket to the mouth of the trumpet.
6. Remove the horn mounting nut.
7. Remove the horn from the mounting bracket.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the replacement horn on the original mounting bracket at the same angle as the original.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the horn mounting nut to the horn attaching it to the horn mounting bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the horn mounting bracket nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
IMPORTANT: Extra mounting brackets and hardware provided in the kit may be discarded.
3. Check the location of the horn connector verses the wire length available in the vehicle. If the vehicle harness will not reach the new connector, remove the existing harness connector and lengthen the wire with the supplied pigtail, using the sealed splices provided. Any extra wiring components can be discarded.
4. Install the electrical connector to the horn.
5. Install the horn assembly with the original horn mounting bracket bolt (1) to the vehicle.
Tighten
Tighten the horn mounting bracket bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
6. Install the headlamp. Refer to Headlamp Assembly or Headlamp Bulb Replacement in Lighting and Horns.
7. Install the park/turn signal/side marker lamp. Refer to Park/Turn Signal/Side Marker Lamp Replacement in Lighting and Horns.
