Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the fuel filter if it is restricted.




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.
7. Remove the fuel filter and mounting bracket.
8. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
2. Install the fuel filter into the fuel filter mounting bracket.
3. Install the fuel filter and mounting bracket.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

5. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
6. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect for fuel leaks.
9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
