Removal and Replacement
Transmission ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct.
3. Remove the right engine mount strut.
4. Install the engine support fixture.
5. Disconnect the transaxle wiring harness connectors.
6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the cable lever.
7. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket with cable from the transaxle.
8. Remove the PNP switch.
9. Remove the fluid filler tube.
10. Remove the upper transaxle bolts (3, 4 and 5) and stud (2).
11. Remove the wiring harness grounds.
12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
13. Remove the front tires and wheels.
14. Remove the engine splash shields.
15. Remove the torque converter cover.
16. Remove the starter motor.
17. Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts.
18. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler hoses from the transaxle.
19. Disconnect the drive axles from the transaxle.
20. Use straps or wire in order to support the drive axles.
21. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector.
22. Remove the transaxle brace.
23. Remove the frame.
24. Use the transmission jack in order to support the transaxle.
25. Remove the utility strap from ONLY the transaxle.
26. Remove the lower transaxle bolt (6) and stud (1).
27. Separate the transmission from the engine.
28. Use the transmission jack in order to lower the transmission.
29. Flush the transaxle oil cooling system.
Installation Procedure
1. Use the transmission jack in order to raise the transmission.
2. Install the transmission to the engine.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the transaxle lower bolt (6) and stud (1).
Tighten the transaxle lower bolt and stud to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the utility strap to the transaxle.
5. Tighten the utility strap in order to prevent the rotation (movement) of the powertrain.
6. Install the transaxle brace.
7. Install the drive axles to the transaxle.
8. Remove the transmission jack.
9. Install the frame.
10. Remove the support straps from the vehicle.
11. Install the transaxle oil cooler hoses to the transaxle.
12. Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts.
13. Install the starter motor.
14. Install the torque converter cover.
15. Install the engine splash shields.
16. Install the front tires and wheels.
17. Lower the vehicle.
18. Install the wiring harness grounds.
19. Install the upper transaxle bolts (3, 4, 5) and stud (2).
Tighten the bolts and stud to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
20. Install the fluid filler tube.
21. Install the PNP switch.
22. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket with cable to the transaxle.
23. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the cable lever.
24. Install the transaxle wiring harness connectors.
25. Remove the engine support fixture.
26. Install the right engine mount strut.
27. Install the throttle body air inlet duct.
