Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair

Cooling Fan Replacement- Electric

^ Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

Caution: An electric fan under the hood can start up even when the engine is not running and can injure you. Keep hands, clothing and tools away from any underhood electric fan.

Caution: To help avoid personal injury or damage to the vehicle, a bent, cracked, or damaged fan blade or housing should always be replaced.





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly.
3. Disconnect the cooling fan harness electrical connector.
4. Remove right side diagonal brace.





5. Loosen the engine mount strut nuts engine side.
6. Remove the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts from the upper radiator support and rotate the struts and brackets rearward.





7. Remove hood latch support bolts.
8. Reposition hood latch support.





9. Remove upper radiator hose.
10. Remove the radiator upper mount bolts (1).
11. Remove the radiator upper mounts.
12. Disconnect the relay mounting clip and reposition relay and harness aside.
13. Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
14. Reposition the coolant overflow hose clamp at the radiator using the J 38185.
15. Disconnect and reposition the coolant overflow hose.
16. Disconnect the upper TOC line from the radiator.
17. Disconnect the TOC lines from the fan module retainer clip.
18. Remove the cooling fans with the cooling fan shroud.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the cooling fans with the cooling tan shroud.
2. Connect the TOC lines to the fan module retainer clip.
3. Connect the upper TOC line to the radiator.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the cooling fan shroud bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
5. Connect the relay mounting clip.
6. Install the radiator upper mounts.
7. Install the radiator upper mount bolts (a)
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.).
8. Install the coolant overflow hose to the radiator.
9. Reposition the hose clamp to secure the coolant overflow hose using the J 38185
10. Install the upper radiator hose.





11. Position hood latch support on the upper radiator support.
12. Install the hood latch support bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





13. Position the engine mount struts brackets flush with the upper radiator support.
14. Install the engine mount strut bracket brace bolts to the upper radiator support.
^ Tighten bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
15. Tighten the engine strut mount nuts engine side.
^ Tighten the nuts to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).





16. Install right side diagonal brace.
17. Connect the cooling fan harness electrical connector.
18. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
19. Connect the negative battery cable.
