Cold Start Injector: Testing and Inspection

Cold start injector sprays fuel at about 65 psi, thus it is advisable to place a container below nozzle when carrying out tests.

LEAK TEST

1. Remove cold start injector from intake manifold plenum.
2. Pressurize fuel system by installing test harness 8.0141 P as described in step 2 of ``Air Flow Sensor Plate & Metering distributor Piston Operational Check'' and pushing switch.
3. Cold start injector must not leak more than 1 drop per minute. If leakage is excessive, replace injector using new O-ring.

OPERATIONAL CHECK (ENGINE COLD)

1. Connect remote starter harness 0.1203 ZB.
2. Place nozzle end of injector into container.
3. Depress switch of test harness 8.0141 P and crank engine by pressing remote starter button. Injector should have spray angle of about 80°. Duration of spray should be about 2 to 5 seconds with engine coolant temperature of 68°F.
4. If injector does not spray, pressurize fuel system and apply current to cold start injector using test harness 8.0141 BH.
5. If injector does not operate, replace it using a new O-ring. If injector does operate, check power supply to connectors, by pressing remote starter switch. (Blue-to cold start injector; brown-to thermo-time switch.)
6. If power is available at blue and brown connectors, refer to ``Thermo-time Switch Check'' procedure to check thermo-time switch.
