Mirrior - Procedure to Replace CIPA Sideview Glass

SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE FOR 1984 & 85 "CIPA" SIDEVIEW MIRROR GLASS


EQUIPMENT INVOLVED: Model Year 1984 & 1985 "CIPA" sideview mirrors only:

Should replacement of mirror glass be required, (broken glass, heating elememt inoperative, etc.) it is only necessary to replace the glass and backing plate unit, AND NOT THE COMPLETE MIRROR ASSEMBLY.

REPAIR PROCEDURE: Replacement glass, heating element and backing plate are available as a unit under part numbers:

8151.49 Drivers side (flat glass) 8151.50 Passengers side (convex glass)

- Remove as much as possible of the broken mirror glass.
- Pull firmly on the backing plate to remove it from the motor hub.
- Disconnect the wires for the heating element.
- Remove any remaining glass from the bottom of the mirror housing.



REINSTALLATION:


Mirror glass/backing plate seen from the back side:
- Center the motor hub horizontally and vertically in the mirror housing by using the control switches.
- Reconnect the wires for the heating element.
- Place the new mirror and backing plate unit in the mirror housing with the locating pins entering the eyelets on the motor hub.
- Ensure the correct location of the 6 friction tabs inside the mirror housing, and that they are not bent back or warped.



- Simultaneously press at the four pressure spots on the glass against the motor hub until you hear the locking tabs snap into place.
- IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO APPLY PRESSURE OUTSIDE THE INDICATED SPOTS, WHICH MAY CAUSE THE GLASS TO BREAK.
CHECK: Make sure that the glass/backing plate unit is held securely in place, and that it moves freely inside the mirror housing when using the electric motor controls.
