Subject: 1985 MODEL YEAR CHANGES

A - Introduction

^ The introduction of a Turbo Charged Sedan completes the line of gasoline powered vehicles. All technical descriptions and specifications may be found in the launch brochure for this vehicle. (Ref. No. 3035).

^ In the turbodiesel powered vehicles the sedan will receive an XD3T engine, and the station wagon retains the XD2S engine.

Note: A separate Class 1 Service Bulletin will cover all the specifications for the XD3T engine.

^ For 1985 there will be four engine types available :

- XN6 fuel injection

- N9T turbo fuel injection
- XD2S turbodiesel (2.3 liter)
- XD3T turbodiesel (2.5 liter)

^ The turbodiesel engines will be fitted with an electronic regulation EGR system, similar to the 1984 California system.

^ The starting serial number for the 1985 model year is :

0368001


^ The 1985 model year letter, 10th position of the 17 digit V.I.N. is : F

B - Main Modifications

Class 1 Engines

^ Introduction of a 2.5 liter turbo charged diesel engine on 505 sedans, known as XD3T (type 152). The turbodiesel engines will receive the electronic regulation EGR system similar to the 1984 California system.




Class 3 Transmission
^ A new gearshift knob, P.N. 2403.62, on manual transmission vehicles with bolder shift pattern.



Class 8 Brakes (Turbodiesel Models)

^ A new Saginaw vacuum pump, P.N. 4565.14, instead of the Pierburg vacuum pump, and the elimination of the vacuum reserve.

- The hose diameter on the intake is 9.5 mm and 12.7 mm on the output side.
- The pulley is a press-fit onto the hub.
- The drive belt is notched and of trapezoidal cross section.
- The pump contains 20cc (0.68 oz.) of SAE 80w90 oil.
- The pump under normal operating conditions should produce 530 mmHg @ 4000 engine RPM.
- The two pumps are not interchangeable.
- The valve cover and the front lifting hook have been modified to accept the Saginaw pump.
Class 10 Wheels and Tires

"STI" Turbodiesel Sedan - 5 Michelin MXV 195/60HR15 tires with 4 eight spoke alloy wheels 6J15FHH25 and 1 steel spare 5.5J15.

Tire pressures - Front 2 Bars (29PSI) Rear 2.2 Bars (32PSI)

"S" Turbodiesel Sedan - 5 Michelin MXL 185/70R14T tires with 4 finned alloy wheels 6J14FHH20 and 1 steel spare 5.5J14.

Tire pressures - Front 1.9 Bars (27Psi) Rear 2.1 Bars (30PSI)

"GL" Turbodiesel Sedan - 5 Michelin MXL 185/70R14T tires on steel wheels 5.5J14 with full wheel covers.

Tire pressures - Front 1.9 Bars (27PSI) Rear 2.1 Bars (30PSI)

The above new referenced tire sizes and pressures are for turbodiesel sedans only. The XN6 sedan and station wagon retain the tire sizes and pressures as on the 1984 models.

Class 12 Electrical

^ Speedometer Maximum Graduations :

- Gasoline 140 MPH
- Turbodiesel 110 MPH

^ Low coolant indicator (already on all turbodiesel models) on XN6 models.
^ New windshield washer reservoir and pump.
^ Instrument cluster accessory feed moved from fuse F3 to F11.
^ Sunroof switch on "S" and "STI" sedans is now on the right side of the console behind the rear window lock-out switch.
^ Rear window lock-out switch function now cuts out power to the rear window switches in its operation mode (pushed down).
^ Centralized door locks : when operated with the key, only through the driver's key lock due to new type locks.
^ Low oil level indicator on all gasoline and diesel models. (See Service Bulletin no. 140, Class 12, for detailed operation).
^ Oil temperature indicator light, controlled by a thermocontact, on XD3T turbodiesel sedans with a new oil filter housing.
Class 13 Body and Trim
^ New door locks with pre-chambers, with 35 mm diameter 0 instead of

30 mm bore in the door panels.
^ New type of door hinge stays mounted between the hinges instead of integrally with the lower hinge.

Note: A separate Class 13 Service Bulletin will detail the above items.



^ The air intake grille is now equipped with two double outlet windshield washer jets, P.N. 6438.46, on all models.
^ The rear turbodiesel monogram is now changed and replaces the aluminum nameplate.
^ The underhood VIN plate riveted to the hood crossmember is now replaced by a cold stamping of the VIN on the right front inner fender. (shown below)

Class 15 Accessories

^ Optional air conditioning is factory installed on GL sedans and Station Wagons.
