Intermittent, Anti-Theft Radio Encoding & Tape Section Problems

INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS:

If an intermittent problem is encountered that is not specifically covered in this bulletin, try to verify the condition if possible. If the condition cannot be verified, replace the radio and state the nature of the intermittent problem on the claim. SPECIFY INTERMITTENT! Otherwise, if a problem cannot be verified by Warranty Parts Testing, the claim will be denied.



ANTI-THEFT RADIO ENCODING PROBLEMS:
Alpine unit - volume and tone Clarion unit, - volume and tone
controls are separate controls are together

PROBLEM: Unit illuminates but will not accept code

ALPINE: Microprocessor may be "locked up." Carefully read radio owners handbook regarding "anti-theft code entry." With key on "ACC," turn radio "ON" and leave "ON" for at least one hour if necessary, then re-enter code. Follow procedure exactly.

CLARION: Clarion's system is not the same as Alpine's. Carefully read owners handbook regarding "anti-theft code entry." Note that to clear a full 4-digit code you must press and hold "BAND" button in for at least 5 seconds until display goes blank.
TAPE SECTION PROBLEMS:

PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR/CUSTOMER INFORMATION (for

problems that occur in tape mode only)

1. Tape speed fluctuates 1-6. Insert known quality dealership
2. Tape reverses prematurely test tape:
3. Radio has eaten one-tape only a. If problem still exists, replace
4. One particular tape is radio. difficult to eject or b. If problem eliminated, advise
insert, all others OK customer that tape is defective
5. Tape will not play (e.g. case warped) and tape unit
6. Tape speed too high/low must be regularly cleaned.

7. Tape will not eject 7. Press "EJECT:"
a. If tape lifts up, carefully try to remove (not forcibly) using thin needle-nose pliers. Insert test tape. If test tape ejects OK, advise customer to discard his tape as it is defective.
b. Tape cannot be extracted - replace radio. If the cassette is not damaged and not defective it will be removed by the vendor and mailed directly to the customer in approximately 4-8 weeks. If damaged or defective, the tape will be discarded.

Return the radio with the defective cassette in-the-radio per warranty procedures.

8. Lack of high frequency 8. Insert tape cleaning cassette. response or distorted Clean 3 times. Insert test tape:

b. If not OK, unit must be removed and professionally cleaned at the customer's expense. This problem is due to lack of proper maintenance.

9. Radio has eaten more 9a. Check tapes customer is using. If than one tape within a inexpensive, dirty, 90 or 120
short period of time minute tapes, advise customer to
use higher quality tapes, keep cassettes clean, and clean tape mechanism periodically, Do not replace unit.
9b. If customer is using clean, 60
minute, quality tapes, replace the radio. STATE ON CLAIM "INTERMITTENTLY EATS TAPES"
