Brakes - Abrasive Coated Pad to Reduce Squeal
86peugeot01BULLETIN NO. 189
DATE: August, 1986
SUBJECT: ABRASIVE COATED BRAKE PADS/BRAKE SQUEAL
To improve the quality of brake repairs, our Parts Department is presently only supplying brake pads with an abrasive coating.
The thin abrasive coating can help to remove any rotor rust (vehicle garaged or stored for an extended period of time), help remove rotor glaze, and improve the break-in of new pads to the rotors. This can reduce or eliminate complaints of brake pedal pulsation and/or steering wheel shimmy, and reduce unnecessary rotor-machining and or replacement.
IMPORTANT:
1. The anti-squeal front brake pads and insulators listed below should be used when installing the above mentioned brake pads.
APPLICATION PART NUMBER
All cars with Teves brakes 0042.45
All cars with Bendix brakes 0042.50
2. Use the above mentioned brake pads and insulators with the new front suspension wishbone bushings on applicable vehicles only, as per Service Bulletin No. 155, Class 8.
3. Advise customer that during the first 150-200 miles of operation the pulsation, shimmy and noise level may increase noticeably until the grinding effect of the abrasive on the rotor is completed.
A SERVICE REPLACEMENT BRAKE PAD THAT ELIMINATES BRAKE SQUEAL IN 75% OF THE CASES AND REDUCES IT TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL IN THE REMAINING 25% OF THE CASES IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT
