AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and the California Air Resources Board have determined that the above referenced vehicles may be releasing air pollutants which exceed the California NOx standard.
This nonconformity will be remedied at the expense of Peugeot (parts and labor). Owners are entitled to this remedy even if they have used parts other than genuine Peugeot parts and/or if they have had repairs performed by outlets other than authorized Peugeot Dealers.
DESCRIPTION OF THE REMEDY
- Replacement of "Pulsair" (air injection system).
- Inspection of the leaning out delay setting and, if necessary, correction of the calibration relay position.

Also keep in mind that you will need to order the repair kit, P/N 1621.62, which will be made available through our Carson parts warehouse.

- Remove cover from control relays located on right inner fender by sliding it toward the front of the car
- Remove air injection inlet hose (1) and clamp from Pulsair housing (2)
- Loosen the clamps on the Pulsair housing to one-way valve connecting hoses (3)
- Pull and discard the Pulsair housing (2), hoses (3), and clamps
- Using a 25 mm (1") crowfoot wrench, one at a time, starting from the front of the engine, remove the four one-way valves (4) and threaded sleeve fittings (5)
- Remove each of the four copper gaskets (6) which may be stuck onto the exhaust air injection plate (7)
INSTALLATION:
- Coat the threaded openings in the air injection plate (7) with anti-seize (P/N 9730.95 or equivalent) and insert the new threaded sleeve fittings (5) into the exhaust air injection plate (7).
- Coat the remaining portion of the threaded sleeve fitting (5) with anti-seize and, one at a time starting from the back of the engine, install the new copper gaskets (6), making sure they are fully inserted into the exhaust air injection plate (7), and tighten the new one-way valves (4).

If the relay is in the wrong connector, remove the relay and install it in its proper location, first removing the blanking plug covering the relay connector. The blanking plug should then be installed over the unused connector.
Verify that the correct connector is being used by checking the wiring:
Pin 1 - Wire 88
Pin 2 - Wire M88
Pin 3 - Wires 126 & 126A
Pin 4 - Blank Pin 5 - Wire 131
- Reinstall control relays cover.
- Reinstall coolant expansion jar.
- Enter your Dealer Code onto the self-adhesive recall label (sample shown below) and place it on the front underneath side of the hood after the area has been wiped clean. Apply the transparent protective sheet to the label.

RE: RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. XN6-01
1982-1985 MODEL YEAR PEUGEOT 505 NATURALLY-ASPIRATED GASOLINE ENGINE VEHICLES REGISTERED IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA ONLY
Dear Peugeot Owner, This notice is sent to you in accordance with California In-Use Emissions-Related Recall Procedure.
Automobiles PEUGEOT and the California Air Resources Board have determined that your vehicle may be releasing air pollutants which exceed the California NOx standard. CARB standards were established to protect your health and welfare from the dangers of air pollution.
This nonconformity will be remedied at the expense of PEUGEOT (parts and labor). You are entitled to this remedy even if you have used parts other than genuine PEUGEOT parts and/or if you have had repairs performed by outlets other than authorized PEUGEOT dealers.
Description of the Remedy
- Replacement of "Pulsair" (air injection system)
- Inspection of the TV setting and, if necessary, correction of the calibration position
If this nonconformity is not repaired your vehicle may fail an emission inspection test when such tests are required under California state law.
To have your vehicle repaired, make an appointment with an authorized PEUGEOT dealer in the State of California on or after May 18, 1988. The repair itself will take approximately one hour, but it can be performed only after the engine has cooled down. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your appointment.
If you have sold the above-referenced vehicle, please use the enclosed postage-paid card to inform us of the name and address of the new owner.
In order to ensure your full protection under the emission warranty made applicable to your vehicle by State or Federal law, and your right to participate in future recalls, it is recommended that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible. Failure to do so could legally be determined to be a lack of proper maintenance of your vehicle.
We therefore strongly encourage you to contact your authorized PEUGEOT dealer and have this repair performed as soon as possible.
