SUBJECT: WATER COOLED TURBOCHARGER INSTALLATION ON 1985 N9T TURBOGAS VEHICLES
Turbocharger P/N 0075.W6, will be supplied with a water cooled center housing. A water cooled mounting kit supplied under P/N 0075.18 must be utilized in conjunction with this new replacement turbocharger.
NOTE: The operating specifications of the turbocharger remain the same as before.

SHOP SUPPLY
1 hose clamp size 25-47 for upper radiator hose,
water pump side
2 hose clamp size 12-20 for turbo coolant hoses
2 plastic tie-straps
1 roll of P.T.F.E. thread seal tape
INSTALLATION
Remove turbocharger. Note: right side engine mount may be removed and right main crossmember lowered using special support bolts (-).1511C P/N 9764.24 to facilitate installation. In this case there is no need to remove the exhaust manifold.
ON WORKBENCH: Install water fitting adapters P/N 0370.02 onto replacement turbo center housing using P.T.F.E. thread seal tape. Torque fittings 1.8 to 2.2 daN-m (13 to 16 ft.lbs.).
FIGURE 1:
Install short metallic water pipe P/N 0371.06 as shown in Fig. 1.
FIGURE 2:
Prior to installing turbocharger, pre-oil with clean engine oil through the oil inlet connection. Thoroughly clean the turbocharger oil feed and return lines.
Install turbo onto exhaust manifold flange.
Install long metallic water pipe P/N 0371.05 as shown in Fig. 2.
Complete reinstallation of turbocharger.
Check for and remove any foreign objects which may be lodged in the compressor inlet pipe.
Drain coolant from radiator.
Remove upper and lower radiator hose. Save long plastic tie strap holding electrical wiring on lower radiator hose.
Install new lower radiator hose P/N 1351.16 using original clamps.
Connect turbo coolant hose from lower radiator hose onto long metallic pipe on engine block side of turbo using a size 12-20 hose clamp.
Wrap plastic spiral P/N 0013.75 around the total length of turbo coolant hose.
Install new upper radiator hose P/N 1343.78 using original hose clamp on radiator side and a new hose clamp size 25-47 on water pump side.
Connect turbo coolant hose from upper radiator onto short metallic pipe on inner fender side of turbo using a size 12-20 hose clamp.
FIGURE 3:
Using plastic tie-straps attach: (refer to Fig. 3)
- turbo coolant hose to upper radiator hose.
- wiring and turbo coolant hose from upper radiator in two locations along the lower radiator hose.
Reinstall components that were removed to replace turbo.
Refill cooling system.
Change the engine oil and filter.
After starting the engine, LET IT IDLE for a few seconds to allow engine oil to circulate through the turbocharger bearing system.
Attach the owner information tag included in the turbo shipping box on the rear view mirror post to remind the owner about the proper operating procedures and maintenance recommendations.
