Rear Axle Assembly Replace


Removal of differential requires removal of left hand drive shaft.
1. Raise rear of car and support under rear arms.
2. Remove left rear wheel.
3. Remove brake pad anti-squeal spring, retaining fork and brake pads.
4. Disconnect brake hose retaining clip on rear arm.
5. Remove brake caliper bolts and remove brake caliper. Hang caliper from body.
6. Remove screws holding disc to hub. Mark position of screw on disc.
7. Remove disc.
8. Remove Allen screw holding hub carrier to rear arm.
9. Remove hub carrier drive shaft assembly.
10. Remove thrust plate and bolts.
11. Drain differential.
12. Remove brake compensator lever pivot from body.
13. Remove the four nuts securing torque tube to differential.
14. Remove the two Allen screws holding differential to suspension crossmember.
15. Disengage differential by pulling towards rear and then towards left.
16. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following torques: torque tube to differential, 43.5 ft. lbs. (6 m-kg); differential to crossmember, 27.1 ft. lbs. (3.75 m-kg); hub carrier to rear arm, 29 ft. lbs. (4 m-kg).
