Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove rear nut on exhaust pipe support, and rear stabilizer bearing clamps.
3. Disconnect muffler heat shield.
4. On rear crossmember, remove the four bolts and place limiter casing aside.
5. On models with 106 engine, remove the two bolts from axle side supports. On models with 829 engine, remove pin (4), Fig. 1. Take care not to lose plate (5), washers (6) and (7).
6. On all models, place torque tube on rear crossmember and loosen rear suspension arm pins.
7. Place suitable jack under right hand crossmember side support.
8. Remove rear seat cushion and remove front nut securing crossmember.
9. Lift sheet metal locking plate and remove plastic plug.
10. Screw in pilot guide 8.0906 K1 and tighten with pin K2. Leave pin in place to retain crossmember.
11. Remove the two rear crossmember securing nuts and lower crossmember until pin contacts vehicle floor.
12. Repeat steps 7-11 on left side. Support rear suspension arms.
13. Remove wheels and rear shock absorbers.
14. Raise vehicle or lower rear arms until springs are freed. Remove springs and rubber cups.
15. Reverse procedure to install springs, noting the following torques: crossmember securing nuts, 47 ft. lbs. (6.5 m-kg); on models with 106 engine, side support bolts, 14 ft. lbs. (3.75 m-kg); on models with 829 engine, locknut (6), Fig. 1, 8 ft. lbs. (9.5 m-kg); limiter casing bolts, 9.4 ft. lbs. (1.3 m-kg); suspension arm hinge pins, 47 ft. lbs. (6.9 m-kg); shock absorber pivot nut, 32 ft. lbs. (4.5 m-kg); stabilizer clamps, 14 ft. lbs. (3.75 m-kg).
