SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE FOR 1986 "CIPA" SIDEVIEW MIRROR GLASS
New Information: Model Year 1986 of "CIPA" manufacture only:
Should replacement of mirror glass be required, (broken glass, heating elememt not working, or other reason) it is only necessary to replace the glass and backing plate unit, and not the complete mirror assembly.
Repair Procedure: Replacement glass, heating, and backing plate as a unit, are available under part numbers:
Driver side (flat glass) P.N. 8151.30 Pass. side (convex glass) P.N. 8151.34
- This unit is easily removed with a small flatbladed screwdriver or similar tool inserted at the bottom center of the glass/backing plate unit, pushing the small lock tab over to the left.
- This will turn the lock ring and free the glass/backing plate unit from the motor housing.
Mirror glass/backing plate seen from the back side:
^ To gain access to the locking tab, push the top part of the glass/backing plate unit as far backwards as it will go inside the mirror housing.
Reinstallation: Reinstall the new glass/backing plate unit in reverse order of removal:
^ Remember to reconnect the wires for the heating element.
^ Ensure that the lock ring locking points are open in the new glass/backing plate unit, with the locking tab in the right position when viewed from the back side (as shown on page 1).
^ Align the open locking points with the eyelets on the motor housing.
^ While pushing the glass/backing plate unit against the motor housing, slide the locking tab to the right (viewed from the front of mirror glass) locking the pieces together.
Check: Ensure that the glass/backing plate unit is held securely in place, and that the glass unit moves freely inside the mirror housing when using the electric motor controls.
