(2)Repair Procedure For Broken Bolts
- Bolts 1 And 2^ Remove headlight to gain access to the broken stud in the sheet metal.
^ Using small vise grip pliers, remove broken stud.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall headlight.
- Repair Of Bolt 3
^ On cars equipped with N9TE engine, remove bracket holding 3 relays (10 MM head bolt and nut on right side of fuse box.
^ Using small vise grip pliers, remove broken stud.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall relay bracket (NOTE only).
^ Reinstall air intake grille.
- Repair Of Bolts 4 And 5 If the bolts are broken in this location, it is not feasible to remove the broken studs.
- Bolt 5 (Left side of steering column)
^ Utilize existing hole in steering support (utilized to maintain wire harness) see drawing below:
^ Remove lower plastic insulating panel (Two 10 MM head nuts).
^ Remove and discard wiring harness tie-strap located as shown on above drawing.
^ Parts required:
1 bolt Part Number: 6926.01
1 nut Part Number: 6935.74
2 star washers Part Number: 6961.04
^ One star washer should be placed on each side of steering column sheet metal.
^ Tighten bolt and nut securely to ensure good ground.
^ Reinstall panels.
- Bolt 4 (Right side of steering column)
^ Utilize existing open hole in steering support located above and forward of chime relay. (Similar location to that shown on drawing on page 6).
^ Remove lower plastic insulating panel (Two 10 MM head nuts).
^ Parts required:
Use same parts as for bolt 5.
^ A star washer should be placed on each side of steering column sheet metal.
^ Tighten bolt and nut securely to ensure good ground.
^ Reinstall panels.
- Repair Of Bolts 6 And 7 (Sedans only)
^ Using small vise grip pliers remove broken right and left rear ground tree studs.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall trunk trim panels.
- Repair Of Bolts 6 And 7 (Station Wagons only)
^ If the bolts are broken in this location, it is not feasible to remove the broken studs.
^ Remove jack or windshield washer container.
^ Remove tailgate pillar side trim moulding.
^ Partially remove trunk trim side panel.
^ Drill a new 6 MM diameter hole 20 MM below original mounting point.
^ Parts required:
Use same parts as for bolt 5.
^ One star washer should be placed on each side of tailgate pillar sheet metal.
^ Tighten bolt and nut securely to ensure good ground.
^ Reinstall parts in reverse order.
- Repair Of Bolt 8 (Station Wagon only)
^ Using small vise grip pliers, remove broken tailgate ground tree stud.
^ Repeat steps A, B, C.
^ Reinstall tailgate trim panel.
