Interior - Glove Box Striker R & R Procedure

SUBJECT: REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF LOWER GLOVE BOX STRIKER FRAME ON 1986 MODELS
On 1986 model year vehicles, the lower glove box striker frame is replaceable separately from the dashboard. Only PARTIAL disassembly of the dashboard is required to perform this operation.
Part Required
- 1 striker frame P/N 8214.60
- 2 pop rivets, 4 MM diameter (5/32")
Suggested Repair Procedure
- Disconnect battery
- Remove:
^ the radio
^ the two screws holding the radio console in place. (Tilt the upper part and lift it to clear the lower tabs (3)
^ the concealing plate (4) by gently prying on left hand side
^ the ashtray (5)
^ the lower glove box mounting bolts, remove the glove box by pressing the sides in
^ the heater/AC fascia panel held by two screws (6) and
^ three bolts (7). Pull fascia panel forward, do not disconnect connectors or vacuum hoses
^ the right side dash speaker grille and speaker
^ the center dash concealer (8)
^ the dash mounting nuts, bolts and torx screw (9) (10)

- Lift the right side of the dashboard to clear the lower glove box striker upper mounting screws (13)
- Remove the three screws (13)
- Drill out the-two rivets holding the sides of the striker frame
- Dislodge the striker frame from the retaining tabs
- Reinstall in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that you reinstall the U shaped spacer located on the center screw (13) of the striker frame
