M/T - Shifting Problems after Mounting Trans or Engine

86peugeot01

BULLETIN NO. 209

DATE: December, 1986
SUBJECT: SHIFTING MALFUNCTIONS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING STANDARD TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE REPLACEMENTS

COMPLAINT: Shifting difficulties or the transmission shift lever may jump into neutral during deceleration only.

REASON: Centering dowels on both the transmission and engine are used to maintain proper alignment between them.

Failure to transfer these dowels to the new engine or transmission will cause a misalignment and result in an immediate complaint. Proper alignment cannot be accomplished without the precision centering dowels due to large bolt-to-bolt hole tolerances.

LOCATION OF CENTERING DOWELS:
CAUTION: Make sure that the centering dowels are in place and protrude by approximately 5 mm whenever replacing a complete transmission or engine assembly.
IMPORTANT:

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WARRANTY CORES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY QUALITY CONTROL WITHOUT THE CENTERING DOWELS REMOVED AND TRANSFERRED TO THE REPLACEMENT UNITS. MULTIPLE REPLACEMENTS HAVE RESULTED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW PROPER SHOP PROCEDURE WILL RESULT IN WARRANTY DEBITS BEING ISSUED. PLEASE CAUTION YOUR PERSONNEL ACCORDINGLY.
