Suspension - Rear Shock Absorber Noise

SUBJECT: REAR SHOCK ABSORBER NOISE - 505 SEDANS

SYMPTOM

When driving on roads with a rough surface, crossing railroad tracks, etc., a knocking noise may emanate from the rear suspension. This is caused by too much play in the shock absorber lower mounting bolt.

NECESSARY PARTS

2 new Nylstop nuts P.N. 6939.10 (one for each side)

NECESSARY TOOLS

Torque wrench w/19 mm socket, and a 10 mm Allen wrench

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Torque the new Nylstop nut (not the bolt) to 6.5 daN-m (48 ft.lbs.).
NOTE: Class 9 (Suspension) of the workshop manual, page G4.002, gives a figure of 4.5 daN-m. Please change the value to:
6.5 daN-m (48 ft.lbs.).

Service Bulletin No. 137, Class 15, Page 8, gives a value of 4.5 daN-m. Please change the value to:
6.5 daN-m (48 ft.lbs.).
