86peugeot01

BULLETIN NO. 188

DATE: August, 1986
SUBJECT: 46 TO 51 MPH VIBRATION ON 1986 TURBO STATION WAGON EQUIPPED WITH ZF4HP22 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

COMPLAINT:

A slight vibration may occur after torque converter lock-up at 46-47 m.p.h. and 2000 rpm under light to medium load to conditions only. This vibration may continue to 50-51 mph and 2200-2300 rpm and is similar to the noise and vibration experienced while driving over a steel grate such as encountered on drawbridges.

PARTS REQUIRED:

P.N. DESCRIPTION QTY
0025.78 Hysterese Sping 1

SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED:

Valve Body Adjustment Tool P.N. 0091.55 "Torx" 27 MM Socket or Equivalent -- Supplied Locally

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

Before starting this repair insure the following:

- The transmission is sufficently cooled down

- The selector is in "N"

1. Drain oil from transmission and remove oil pan

2. Remove oil filter from valve body (3 bolts)
CAUTION: SAVE AND REUSE O-RING

3. Remove valve body (13 bolts - 12 mm dia.)

4. Place valve body (transmission side down) on IMMACULATELY CLEAN SURFACE

FIGURE 1:

5. Remove the WK housing from the valve body, Fig. 1 by removing 6 bolts from opposite side where the WK housing is mounted. Try to remove the WK separator plate with WK housing so that you do not lose the check ball seated in the channel of the WK Housing.
6. Pull clip holding "Hysterese Spring" (see arrow in Fig. 1) and remove spring; install new spring and reinsert spring retaining clip.

FIGURE 2:

7. Remount WK housing on valve body (6 bolts) insuring the check ball is seated in channel as shown in Fig. 2. Torque bolts to 0.6 daNm (4.35 Ft. Lbs.).

FIGURE 3:

FIGURE 1:

8. Install valve body on transmission, making sure accelerator cam on selector shaft is positioned properly on throttle valve as shown in Fig. 3. Screw in all mounting bolts, but do not tighten, refer to Fig. 1 for bolt sizes and locations.

FIGURE 4:

9. Insert special tool between pin of throttle pressure piston and throttle pressure housing as shown in Fig. 4

NOTE: This special tool sets valve body adjustment between the throttle valve housing and the accelerator cam shoulder to 11.5 MM.
10. Lightly press valve body unit against special tool. In that position tighten all retaining bolts of valve body. Tightening of bolts should be don in a circular pattern starting from the center of the valve body. Torque bolts to 0.8 daNm (5.8 Ft. Lbs.)

FIGURE 5:

11. Install oil filter, insuring O-ring is in proper position as shown in Fig 5. Torque bolts to 0.8 daNm (5.8 Ft. Lbs.)
12. Reinstall oil pan and gasket, if gasket is cracked or dried out replace using P.N. 2214.09. Torque bolts to 0.6 daNm (4.35 Ft. Lbs.)
