BULLETIN NO. 184

DATE: June, 1986
SUBJECT: 1986 ZF4HP22 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, NO DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST GEAR.

COMPLAINT

Transmission will not downshift into 1st gear after coming to a stop. This condition usually occurs when the transmission is warm to hot, under light to medium acceleration. The vehicle will move forward in 2nd gear for a short distance and then a "thump" may be felt as the transmission downshifts into 1st gear.
NOTE: This condition may be mis-diagnosed as a hesitation on initial take-off.
