Steering Gear Replace
MANUAL STEERING
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect tie rod ends.
3. Remove steering shaft collar bolt.
4. Remove two bolts securing steering gear to crossmember.
5. Insert 6 mm punch in shaft collar bolt hole and disengage steering shaft.
6. Remove steering gear.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

POWER STEERING
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Drain hydraulic system by removing filler cap and disconnecting high pressure hose.
4. Disconnect low pressure hose.
5. On 604 models only, support engine, disconnect engine mounts.
6. On all models, disconnect steering shaft coupling.
7. On 604 models, lower crossmember about 1-1/2 inches.
8. On all models, remove safety spring clips and steering gear bolts.
9. Disconnect tie rod ends.
10. Remove nut securing steering arm to front crossmember and remove steering gear towards rear.
11. Reverse procedure to install. On 504 and 604 models steering links length should be adjusted to get approximate wheel alignment. Dimension (a) in Figs. 3 and 4 should be 10.97 inch (278.6 mm) on 504 models, and 11.73 inch (298 mm) on 604 models.
