SUBJECT: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARRANTY PROGRAM
The National Warranty Department has noticed that a high percentage of returned warranty 505 Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) components have been found not to be defective upon our testing.
Therefore, in an effort to assist Peugeot dealers in the proper diagnosis of ABS problems, PMA and TEVES, the ABS manufacturer, have initiated a Problem Solving Program.
Effective immediately and until further notice, please implement the program specified below when encountering ABS brake problems. This program will avoid unnecessary customer inconvenience and repeat repairs.
ABS PROBLEM SOLVING PROGRAM:
1. When a customer complains about an ABS system problem, NOT A ROUTINE BRAKE PROBLEM, contact your Regional/Distributor's Technical Representative immediately. If he is not available, request "ABS assistance" from the Regional/Distributor's Service Department.
Provide the Tech Rep with all pertinent information and vehicle data in order to properly diagnose/troubleshoot or pinpoint the problem.
2. Teves will be contacted and given the acquired information.
3. A Teves representative will contact the Tech Rep and, if necessary, the dealer technician on a conference call with the Tech Rep, to attempt to diagnose/troubleshoot and resolve the problem over the phone.
4. If Teves is able to resolve the problem over the phone, Teves will authorize the necessary replacement of major components such as the hydraulic unit and/or the ECU.
5. If the problem cannot be resolved over the telephone, a car rental will be authorized by the Regional/Distributor's Service Manager, and an SDA will be issued, subject to the following conditions:
A. 4 days maximum usage
B. Mid-sized vehicle
C. Reasonable rental rate for dealer's locale
6. Within two (2) days of your request for assistance, a PMA Regional or Distributor's Representative and a Teves Representative will visit your dealership to assist in diagnosing the problem with your technicians. Any ordering of required components will be authorized at this time. PLEASE INSURE THAT ALL NECESSARY REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ORDERED VOR AND INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIPT.
7. Road test the vehicle upon completion of repairs and advise the Region/Distributor of the results.
8. Warranty claim preparation and submission procedures should be completed in the normal manner as outlined in our Warranty Procedure Manual.
In order to perform the required diagnosis of the ABS brake problem, the following documentation and special tools are required:
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
1. Brakes/Suspension/Steering course
2. Workshop Manual, Section 7-8-9-10
3. 1987 Electrical Workshop Manual
4. 1988-89 Electrical Workshop Manual
REQUIRED SPECIAL TOOLS:

2. Fluke Meter or equivalent
3. ABS Pressure Gauge, P/N 0091.60

It is our recommendation that all dealership personnel who have any involvement with this Program become familiar with its handling and contacting procedures.
