PARTS DEPARTMENT SUPERSESSION OF ABS ECU
MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH BOSCH 2E ABS
The Parts Department has begun supplying a superseded ECU, P/N 4542.28 for the Bosch 2E ABS. This unit incorporates the following changes:
- The safety relay (1) and the pump motor relay (2) are now soldered to the ECU. NO ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO REMOVE THESE RELAYS FROM THE ECU.
- The ECU can be identified by a blue colored capacitor (3) between the black 6 pin connector and the relays.
- The installation of a new protective cover P/N 4543.44.
INSTALLATION:
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove the protective cover (1).
- Remove the three electrical connectors (2) & (2a).
- Remove the mounting screws (3). Note: The screw marked (x) is not reinstalled.
- Remove the ECU.
Inspect the configuration of the terminals in the 15 pin Bosch connector (2a).
- If there is no terminal in pin 9 of the connector, proceed as follows:
^ Cut the nylon wire tie that secures the rubber boot to the connector.
^ Pull the rubber boot back from the connector and remove the three Phillips head screw from the connector's cover.
^ With a pick or awl, remove the rubber weather seal located inside the connector's recess.
^ Push the connector through the cover to gain access to the wiring.
^ With a pick or awl, slide out the plastic lock plates in each side of the connector.
^ Using an electrical terminal release tool, remove wire number 35D from pin three of the connector, by inserting the tool through the small notch in the connector next to the terminal.
^ Inspect the terminal for damage, if any is noted, replace the terminal, P/N 6541.12.
^ Reinstall wire number 35D in pin number nine of the connector. Be sure that it locks into place with a "click".
^ Reassemble the connector making sure that the lock plates are fully installed, and a new wire tie is used on the rubber boot.
- Install the new ECU in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
When installing a new ECU, replace the protective cover and screw.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
With this ECU, it is no longer possible to retrieve "fault codes" using conventional methods. Therefore, if it becomes necessary to diagnose an illuminated ABS light on a vehicle so equipped, refer to the general diagnostic procedure.
