Engine Mount, Lower - Deterioration

BULLETIN NO. 469

DATE: OCTOBER, 1994

SUBJECT:
LOWER ENGINE MOUNT REPLACEMENT

MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES

Some cases of deterioration of the lower engine mount bushing have been reported in vehicles subjected to severe operating conditions. It is now possible to replace the bushing (p/n 1809.21) without replacing the entire lower motor mount assembly.

TOOLING:

Replacement of the bushing in the lower motor mount requires the use of tool kit number 7.0175. This tool can be purchased through the Parts Department under part number 9769.50, or can be obtained through our Tool Loaner Program. The kit consists of an abutment sleeve (1), # 7.0175A, and a bushing extraction/installation tool (2), # 7.0175B.

PROCEDURE:

Remove the lower engine mount. This requires removal of the right side half shaft (see mechanical workshop manual, section 4, pages C4.002 and C4.003).

BUSHING REMOVAL:

- Place the abutment sleeve (1) on a hydraulic press table with the large diameter opening up
- Position the motor mount assembly on top of the sleeve as shown
- Install the extraction tool (2) over the bushing if it is still intact
- Carefully mark the tool's position on the housing (3)

NOTE:
The bushing's alignment in the motor mount is critical; therefore, be sure that the pins (4) on the extraction tool (2) engage the bushing as shown

- Press out the old bushing; be sure the press arbor is properly positioned on the extraction tool to avoid cocking the bushing in it's bore
- In the event that it was not possible to mark the housing prior to removal of the bushing, position the mount behind the abutment sleeve (1) and mark as shown at (3)

INSTALLATION:

- Position the abutment sleeve (1) on the press table with the small diameter opening facing up
- Place the blower motor mount on the sleeve as shown
- Install the extraction/installation tool (2) onto the bushing, being sure that the pins engage the bushing as previously shown
- Line up the index mark of the installation tool (2) with the mark (3) previously made in the motor mount

- Proceeding slowly and being sure that the press arbor is properly positioned to avoid cocking the bushing, press the bushing into the motor mount until it contacts the abutment sleeve
- Reinstall the lower motor mount onto the vehicle; torque the mounting bolts to 45 N-m (33 ft.lbs.)
- If the bushing has been properly installed, the uprights (5) of the bushing will be perpendicular to the shop floor with the motor mount in place

WARRANTY INFORMATION:

This repair will be accepted when performed within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period of three (3) years and/or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
