Rear Wheel Bearing Rotation Sliding Resistance Check

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect driveshaft at companion flange, refer to Driveshaft Replacement.
3. Remove caliper assembly and suspend with wire.

4. Attach a spring balance to hub bolt, then pull balance at a right angle to bolt. Measure rotation starting torque.
5. If rotation starting torque is less than 6 lb-in, bearing is satisfactory.
6. If rotation starting torque is more than 6 lb-in, ensure tightening torque of axle shaft companion flange is as follows:
a. Ensure torque is 116-159 lb-ft, on Laser and Talon.
b. Ensure torque is 137 lb-ft, on Stealth less turbo.
c. Ensure torque is 188-217 lb-ft, on Stealth with turbo.
7. If torque is satisfactory, replace wheel bearing.
