Keyless Entry - Intermittent Operation PCM Interference

Group Ref.: Accessories
Bulletin No.: 339007B
Date: January, 1994

SUBJECT:
INTERMITTENT OPERATION OF REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (REPLACE PCM)

MODELS:
1994 CHEVROLET LUMINA APV
1994 OLDSMOBILE SILHOUETTE
1994 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT
WITH 3.8L ENGINE (RPO L27 - VIN CODE L)

BULLETIN BEING REVISED TO CHANGE THE PCM PART NUMBER. PLEASE DISCARD PREVIOUS BULLETIN 339007A.

CONDITION:
On the 1994 U-Van with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE, RPO Code AUO), and 3.8L L27 (Vin Code L) engines, the RKE may have one or more of the following conditions:

1. Intermittent operation with the ignition "on", or for six seconds after the ignition is shut "off".

2. May not be able to "customize" the Automatic Door Locks (ADL) as directed in the Owner's Manual. The customization is done using the RKE transmitter.

3. May not be able to program a new transmitter. This condition should occur on only a small percentage of vehicles and the system will operate normally when the ignition is "off".

CAUSE:
The PCM, new for 1994, produces more electrical interference than previous designs. The RKE module may pick up some of this interference, and may not operate while the interference is occurring. The PCM will stay on for six seconds after the ignition is turned "off".

A new PCM with added internal protection against interference was used in production after the following VIN breakpoints:

Chevrolet: RT113893

Pontiac: RT211289

Oldsmobile: RT306854

CORRECTION:
Replace the PCM with P/N 16183247, following the directions in the Service Manual. When replacing the PCM for this condition, order a new part from GMSPO. This part has several internal changes, but uses the same part number. DO NOT use a part in dealer stock.

Until the new part is received, Items 2 and 3 above can be performed using the following procedure. This will no longer be necessary after replacing the PCM.

1. Turn the ignition "off" and wait at least six seconds.

2. Remove the "ECM" fuse, turn the ignition back "on". Then do the programming as shown in the Service Manual or Owner's Manual. Both items are done with the ignition "on".

3. Turn the ignition "off", then reinstall the "ECM" fuse.

PART AVAILABILITY:
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
